RESULT - 6-5-1
Westmead Lord (writes, or rather, wrote Ozzie Osman) can give trainer Nick Savva his third consecutive Derby title by taking a first bend lead and making all ahead of kennel mate Dilemmas Flight.
Having secured the double in 2005 and 2006 with the mercurial Westmead
Hawk, due to be measured up for Madam Tusards next week, Savva can work
his master canine handling skills once again with the famous prefix.
Stats men, yes I've done the research, will tell you that greyhounds can
go all the way to a derby final without winning a single qualifying
heat and yet still walk away with the sports richest prize.
Allen Gift proved it could be done in 2002 and further back in time
Slippy Blue in 1990, I was in the ring that night 16-1 into 8-1, and on
the gamble, produced the run of his life in the decider having failed to
win a solitary heat leading up to the big night.
Pearls Girl, 1995, was the last bitch who had a genuine chance of
landing the OAKS/DERBY double. She was one of the fastest bitches to
wear a racing jacket but could only finish fourth when jinxed with the
red vest when favourite that year.
Dilemmas Flight has a crack at that unique set and has come to hand beautifully for the Savva camp.
"'She was absolutely bouncing out of the kennel on Sunday morning shes's
racing with total enthusiasm and I could not be more pleased with her''
Savva stated.
Ullid Conor looks best placed for the Irish challenge Paul
Hennessys' charge took the eye at Sunderland when picking up a nice
prize over the six-bend trip. Hes' performed with great guts and
determination throughout the tournament and deserves to feature at the
winning line. Really impressed in the semi finals when knuckling down
tenaciously to beat Forest Scholes.
Loyal Honcho proved the five box isn't his favourite slot when moderately away behind Dilemmas Flight in the semi final.
The Easter Cup third may well be in the wars with Caulry Fast Trap, Rye House Derby champ, in the early exchanges so is omitted.
There has never been a Derby champion from trap one since the event
moved to Wimbledon 22 years ago so history is very much against Forest Scholes.
Set to be another memorial night for the great Nick Savva as he looks destined to train the first two home .

Trap 4 FEAR HARIBO - heat 6
(9.09 Wimbledon Thursday June 7th)
The outstanding winner of The Scottish Derby at Shawfield is the clear ante-post jolly with most firms.
However, 'White Lightning' may have cold water spilt on his black jacket
in this heat. The very presence of Lilywhite Paddy in three may send
cold shivers down the spines of
punters who have backed him. Paddy is my no means a star but he has
enough early pace to shut the favourite down into the first bend.
Fear Haribo likes to cut down to the rails when leaving the boxes whilst
Lilywhite Paddy boasts half-decent early to the turn and may well stop
the favourite getting a run. So with that in mind lay Fear Haribo
at 4-7.
One of the Betfair ante-post favourites is likely to go off odds-on in his heat on Saturday night.
While there's no doubting he's fast, he may struggle to gain a clear run
into the bend with Directors Chair (T3) and local runner Knockna Kirka
(T1) either side. He is worth a small lay at odds of 8-11.
BACK TO LAY OFF
MEENALA CRUISER
A fantastic winner of puppy event at Sunderland, Julie Bateson's
youngster took the bends there as fast and as clean as any dog I've seen
this year.
The black son of Droopys Woods smashed the 450-metre track record in 26.64secs.
Connections initially felt the Derby would come too soon for him but after that stunning run they have rightly entered him.
Meenala Cruiser (Trap 5) runs in a very weak looking heat 22 on
Saturday. The advice is to back him ante-post and they lay him off. He
will shine against moderate rivals and then without question the
bookmakers will react accordingly and cut his price.
